Age Restriction

There is no age restriction on used cars for import in Barbados.

Left/Right-hand Drive Vehicle

All the vehicles imported from Japan must be Right-Hand Drive (RHD)

Inspection Policy

In Barbados, there is no inspection required for imported cars.

Import Duties and Taxes

Import Duty

As a CARICOM member and in compliance with the Common External Tariff, Barbados applies a 45% rate on used buses.

Excise tax

Motor buses (H.S. 87.03) with 1800cc engines and chargeable over $45,000 incur a 120% excise tax.

Goods transport buses (H.S. 87.04) are taxed as follows:

Gross weight ≤ 5 tonnes and chargeable value ≤ $45,000: 62.77% excise tax

Gross weight ≤ 5 tonnes and chargeable value > $45,000: 80.16% excise tax

Gross weight > 5 tonnes: 10% excise tax

VAT:

A 17.5 % value-added tax is applied for used buses imported into Barbados.

Environmental Levy:

A 1% environmental levy, amounting to $1000, is imposed. Containers with used buses experience a 0.75% levy through the CIF value.

Condition: Donor motor buses are imported.

Title and Registration Certificate

Importing a used Bus also requires the owner’s log book, insurance policy, and period, plus any other documents that testify to the active period of ownership.
