Reglas y Regulaciones de Importación de Coches Usados en el Kenya

Age Restriction

A maximum of 7-year-old vehicles can be imported to Kenya. Also, the difference between the registration date and the manufacturing date shouldn't be more than a year.

Right-Hand Drive Vehicles

Kenya is a left-hand traffic country, which means that only right-hand drive vehicles are allowed in the country. Special vehicles such as fire engines, ambulances, and large combustion vehicles are exempted from this restriction.

Inspection

Before the cars from Japan can be used on the roads of Kenya, they must go through a rigid safety check. The inspection is done either by JEVIC (Japan Export Vehicle Inspector Center) or QISJ (Quality Inspection Service Japan).

Import Duties and Taxes on Used Cars in Kenya

An import declaration fee (IDF) is charged before application. The amount to be paid is at least $5,000 or 2.25% of CIF.

Documents Required for Customs

The customs authority requires the following documents for customs clearance: Bill of Landing, Inspection Certificate, Final Invoice, KRA pin code, and Import Declaration Form (IDF).

Free Storage Service for Upto 21 Days

Customers can clear their car within 21 days of arrival at MCT (Mombasa Container Terminal) without any storage charges. After 21 days, storage costs will be charged at MCT.
