Règles et règlements d'importation de voitures d'occasion en Zambia

Age Restriction

There is no age restriction on the import of used Japanese cars in Zambia.

Right-Hand Drive Vehicle

Import of left-hand drive vehicles is prohibited in Zambia, and only right-hand drive vehicles are allowed. Exceptions are made for special vehicles such as fire engines and ambulances.

Inspection

All vehicles imported to Zambia must be certified for roadworthiness by the Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Center (JEVIC).

Import Duties and Taxes on Used Cars in Zambia

Tax is charged on taxable value, including custom duty (excise duty where applicable) and custom value. 

Passenger Vehicles: 25% of CIF

Commercial Vehicles: 15% of CIF

Excise Duty 

Passenger vehicles 

Engine size below 1500cc: 20% CIF
Engine size above 1500cc: 30% CIF

Commercial Vehicles 

10% CIF

VAT

VAT is collected on behalf of the VAT division and is applied to imported goods

16% of CIF + Custom Duty + Excise Duty

Carbon Emmision Surtax 

This is charged annually on vehicles moving on country roads based on the engine capacity of the vehicle. It is also charged on all the motor vehicles being imported into Zambia and also those visiting and transiting. 

1500cc or below engine capacity: 50000 Surtax Rate 

1500cc - 2000cc engine capacity: 100000 Surtax Rate

2000cc- 3000cc engine capacity: 50000 Surtax Rate

3000cc or above engine capacity: 200000 Surtax Rate

Documents Required for Import of Vehicle in Zambia

  • Bill of lading

  • Commercial invoice 

  • Original certificate of registration and title 

  • Non sale certificate 

  • Driver’s license

  • Valuation certificate 

  • Letter of transfer from the client’s employer
